Kelvin Hughes is supplied with radar for the second generation of patrol boats of the Malaysian Navy
Recently, Kelvin Hughes received a contract from Boustead Naval Shipyard to provide a pair of pass-type certified upmast I-band (X-band) for each newly built patrol boat of the Malaysian Navy's second-generation patrol boat program. The six new warships of the E/F band (S-band) Hawkeye Doppler radar, also known as the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), have a displacement of 3,100 tons and are designed with stealth frigates. The first radar was delivered in July 2016. The radar is equipped with a shore-integrated device (SIF) for operational management integration with other systems for further development and testing onshore prior to installation.
It is reported that the Malaysian Maritime Administration (MMEA) has ordered six new coastal patrol boats from the Destini Shipyard. The coast patrol boat will be designed to ensure a range of operations including maritime surveillance and firefighting missions, and will be equipped with Kelvin Hughes' latest widescreen navigation radar display, plus a 12kW X-band radar and S-band eagle-eye certified TM radar.
At the beginning of this year, Kelvin Hughes has delivered the first two new coastal patrol boats. It is expected that the two new coast patrol boats will be in service in the first half of 2017, and the remaining systems will be delivered in the second half of 2017. Kelvin Hughes also recently provided the Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS) to the Malaysian Maritime Executive's rapid interceptor.
