In order to solve the leakage problem of the pipe thread fittings used in the oil and gas industry with conventional machine taps or other thread processing methods, Emuge designed and developed a new solid carbide thread milling cutter and an indexable blade thread milling cutter. Among them, the thread milling cutter with spiral groove can be used for machining NPT/API thread with diameter of 0.125′′~2′′(3~50mm); the index milling insert thread milling cutter with incomplete profile can be used for processing diameter of 1′′~20′′. (25-500mm) NPT/API thread. These new thread milling cutters extend the machining range of Emuge's Thread-Max and Threads-All threading tools.

Milled solid carbide thread milling cutters use micro-grained carbide grades and TiCN coatings to increase tool life. The multi-spiral groove design eliminates machining chatter. The milling cutter design combines large tool diameters with precise thread profile corrections to ensure threading accuracy and expand the milling cross section to produce large thread lengths for API pipe threading.

Indexable insert thread milling cutters for machining tapered threads are hardened steel cutters, Weldon type shanks with CNC grinding or integral CAT50 shank with 3 stem sizes. The cutter is internally cooled and coolant is ejected radially from the cutting edge of the insert to optimize cooling and chip removal and improve thread quality and tool life. Grinding inserts are made of fine grain cemented carbide with TiN or TiAlN coating available. The design of the front and rear corners of the blade allows it to withstand a large chip load per tooth; the design of the blade shape enables free cutting, reduces radial cutting pressure, and ensures thread machining accuracy. Each blade has 4 usable cutting edges for longer blade life. Precisely machined high-precision tool holders on the steel end face of the tool body ensure precise positioning of the blade.
